As a type of accountability during this degree program, it is vital to look back at the goals that I set out for myself and evaluate my success in achieving them.
My first goal for this month was to look for innovation within larger organizations. The program continues to direct my work and research toward starting a new entrepreneurial venture and away from innovating within a larger, existing one. I do not feel as if I have succeeded in developing a deeper understanding of innovation within large, established organizations, though I did gain some insights into starting my own business. Even without succeeded at my initial goal, I see my venture concept evolving, and that is proof that the material and discussions were of significant value. In regard to my third listed objective, I strongly believe that my understanding of creativity and innovation within business is well-formed and solidifying.
The Business Model Development course helped me to expand my research and possible competition to include pre-seed accelerators, such and the Founder Institute (FI). One big takeaway from this course is that a business model is never “done” and if good, is in a constant state of potential revision, especially during the planning stages.
There is still considerable research, planning, and collaborating needed in the months, even year(s) ahead to help shape this dream into a reality. I fully believe in the need for such an organization within the university’s alumni network, and that is a major motivator behind my ambitions to see this take flight. In addition, I continue to have conversations with industry specific experts that affirm their interest and advisory commitment to associated ventures as we proceed.
