Business Model Presentation Mastery Journal

As a type of accountability during this degree program, it is vital to look back at the goals that I set out for myself and evaluate how completely I’ve attained them. The mastery journal also serves as a chance for me to conduct a personal debrief, or postmortem after each class. This entry serves as the final post to this journey because each entry is associated with a specific course in the program, and this is the last one within the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Master of Science degree at Full Sail University.

My first goal for the Business Model Presentation and Thesis course was to “consider my next steps.” While this class assisted greatly in preparing to present my business, I had already considered my next steps last month, and I made the appropriate pivot. In the previous class, I decided to change the nature of my intended business completely. The Innovation and Entrepreneurship degree program taught me the value of a well-informed (and timed) pivot, and now is one of those times. Unfortunately, due to the current pandemic, I felt that an entertainment media production incubator was less than an ideal business proposition because of the physical proximity required between people needed to make it work. Instead, my new venture is a virtual event strategy company. The venture change required a new round of research and asset production in preparation for the final presentation, which was the primary focus for me this past month. I fully completed my objective.

The second personal goal for the class was to “apply my knowledge-base towards building a stronger connection to my vocation.” I feel I accomplished this goal satisfactorily as well. I’ve had several productive and positive meetings with individuals within my trusted network of professionals. They’ve provided validation that Varlan Virtual Strategies is a needed venture, along with beneficial suggestions, and offers to join on a contract basis as well.

My third goal for this class was to “graduate,” and I fully intend to do so next week.
